Multitasking: Multiple Windows in s60 BROWSER

Author: Tejash Patel // Category:

The user manual for the N95 says that it can open multiple windows in the browser but even after three firmwares I am yet to see that option materialise. However what the latest v20 firmware has done, is give the N95 a decent ammount of free RAM. Under the old circumstances I never really dreamed of managing multiple windows on the browser, however things have changed and we are in a position to do so. I sucessfully opened four websites

For the other devices too, such as the N82, N81 and the others with decent ammount of RAM already, multiple windows on high speed wifi/3G connections is something practical.

METHOD:

the attachment is called .htm file which can be used to open new windows. Just set it as you homepage from the settings in the browser and click on the ?Open a new window? link to open upto a maximun of 5 windows. It also features direct google search field and a goto box.

-To set this up, copy the file to E:/Others with a file manager or any way you choose.
- Lauch the browser and select Options>Bookmarks>Add a Bookmark.
- In the address type ?file://localhost/e:/others/NewWindow.htm? and save the bookmark.
- Load the bookmark, goto Settings>General>Homepage and select use current.
Thats it, next time you load the browser this will be displayed. You can also press 9 for the default goto option which remembers history.

works in other s60 v3 fp1/OS9.2 phones also............not tested in OS9.1 but i think it should work in those too

Reinstall fimware on nokia e71 for change keyword quertz to querty

Author: Tejash Patel // Category:
Step 1. Try reinstalling the firmware using Nokia Software Updater (NSU). It will install the most actual firmware that is corresponding to the productcode of your phone, and the productcode defines the keyboardlayout of the phone. (NSU tells you where to finde that code, see link in post above).

Step 2. If the keyboard-layout from the firmware does not match the keyboard-layout from the phone, someone might have changed the productcode. You can find the original productcode under the battery of the phone. When you google for "change nokia product code" you find links to Nemesis Software Suite (NSS), and you find some "how-to's" with additional explanation. You mus install NSS to find the acutal productcode, and then you can compare the numbers. If needed, change it back and retry step 1.

Step 3. One option is, that someone has changed the productcode to install the most actual firmware (210.21.006 for an european RM-346, check out by pressing *#0000#), and after the firmware was installed, he/she has changed the productcode back to the original one. You will not be able to downgrade the firmware! In this case, you are only able to reinstall the firmware when the firmware for the original code is minimum the same firmware (or newer, of course). The only thing you can do then, is finding a productcode for a corresponding keyboard-Layout and use that to update your phone (step 1).

As far as I know, EURO1 will match your needs regarding the keyboard. It shoud work on a european headset. But please make sure. I am not responsible for any of your actions!

Good Luck, don't brick your phone!

Cant Uninstall Applications via Manager?

Author: Tejash Patel // Category:
When you cant uninstall an application(most of the time Java games) using the Manager function of the phone, then do this;

1. Install FExplorer.

2. Launch it and goto the path/folder of the Application. I'm assuming you have install it to the MMC so the path would be something like,

E:\system\apps

and you will see lots of folders in there that is only labelled by numbers(for Java games/apps) or the name of the application. Go though them one by one. Open the text file in that folder to exactly know the name of the application in that particular folder if you dont see any icons or familiar name.

3. Then if its the correct folder, "move-out" of the folder, click on Options>File>Delete.

4. Then goto the Manager to uninstall it if its still listed.

5. Reboot.

Increase Your MMC Space.

Author: Tejash Patel // Category:
Your files in MMC are stored in multiple (disk) blocks.
So if you format using 16K block, the space used will be 16K eventhough your file is just 1K.

If you buy MMC, it is usually preformatted with 16K block. Therefore alot of space is wasted as most installed program files are usually less than 2K.

You will need a card reader to do this:-

1. Connect card reader and copy all your files in the MMC to computer disk. (Make sure you set the show all/hidden/os files to "on")

2. Do a format of the MMC using command line "format" and use the /A=size option.

Alternative, you can use the Disk Management in Adminstrative Tools to format. Make sure you select FAT. For 256MB MMC, smallest block you can use is 4K, 128MB is 2K, 64Mb is 1K and 32MB is 512B.

(Note: You cannot use the phone "format MMC" to do this as the format just clear the allocation table and does not change the block size)

3. Copy back all files to MMC.

Now you will find that you will have more space.
256mb MMC got back 30+ mbs

Mapping the Nokia 5800 memory card as a Network Drive

Author: Tejash Patel // Category:
1. Please download and install WebDrive http://www.4shared.com/get/121442725/a4c7144f/SouthRiverWebDrivev9002199Enterprise.html . Launch WebDrive.

2. Click on NEW SITE button at the bottom.

3. Type the name of the drive and select the drive letter. The mapped drive will have this name and drive letter. Click NEXT.

4. Select the "Server Type" as WebDAV and click NEXT.

5. Key in the URL for the server. URL format is "/WebDav". Everything is case sensitive. Phone's IP Address is the Nokia 5800's ip address on your Wi-Fi network. Click NEXT.

6. Key in the username and password used while configuring the Nokia Web Server on Nokia 5800. Choose to save the password. Click NEXT.

7. Click on FINISH.

8. Go to My Computer.

Now you can copy, delete, edit any file to/from this drive just as you do with normal windows drives. Any file that you copy here appears in your phone under this location - "E:\Data\Web Server\htdocs\".

If you wish to see your existing files on the phone in this mapped drive, you need to move the file/folders to "E:\Data\Web Server\htdocs\".

Caution: Remember to move your files back from this location before uninstalling the Nokia Web Server otherwise all the files will get deleted.

Map Folder or Directory to Drive Letter for Quick and Easy Access

Author: Tejash Patel // Category:
Have you worked with folders that are hidden deeper inside the system and found it really troublesome to access it?

Yeah I know; there is pretty simple solution for this problem but unfortunately on S60 devices it is impossible to create a handy shortcut to specific folder or move it to the desktop or at any other convenient location.

The good news is that now it is possible even on the Symbian S60 devices, just released FCA’s software allows you to define any drive letter that is not currently used to represent a physical drive as a virtual drive. MapDrives is a small sys... ..

Reset Nokia Security Code

Author: Tejash Patel // Category:
So you don't know or you have forgotten your Nokia Security code? Don't worry the solution lies in this very page! No data cable needed with this new solution.

This is my first update to my site for a while but more there is certainly more to come. The mighty Dejan Kaljevic popped his head out recently (from were ever he has been hiding) and developed an application that generates the Master Code for most Nokia handsets.

So what is a master code I hear you ask.
Well lets assume you have forgotten your security code. The master code is a 10 digit number that will always be accepted as if it were your actual security code.

You can then use the master code to change your security code back to what ever you like. When your Nokia handset asks you for the security code simply enter the master code.

How do you generate the master code?
The master code is specific to your handset and is generated using the handset 15 digit IMEI number (serial number). I am happy to report that thanks to one of our forum moderators Keith (AKA keithod) their is a great little program that will generate your master code easily.

This program in Java and so you may need to download and install Java runtime.

I have not tested this extensively but I believe this will work for all DCT3 and DCT4 handste but not the BB5 range. So this will not work for the newer Nokia's such as 6630, 6680, 6280 and N-series.. etc

NOTE:
The default security code for all Nokia handsets is 12345
